HP Infinity Screen Dust Behind Glass: Factory Defect: DV8T Review

I tried to post this review under the ‘Customer Reviews’ page on HP.com, but they apparently have prevented it from being posted to their website, so I am taking matters into my own hands to keep those considering purchasing this laptop informed.

Background:

As a web design and animation business owner of 11 years… I always shop a LOT before buying anything. I am into looks and I am into speed. I looked at all manufactures and models possible for over 3 months and finally decided to stick with HP since I had good luck with my last laptop (a ZD 7000). So, I received my DV8T with every upgrade possible, and it was QUITE beautiful as advertised. And it is the fastest laptop I have ever laid hands on to date. A VERY nice machine… except for a huge factory defect!

Hidden Factory Defect with HP Infinity Screen:

After 2 days of absolutely LOVING this new computer I suddenly thought I noticed a blown pixel. There was a large dot on the screen. And then came another after I wiped it and used some compressed air to remove it. The dots were white when the screen was black, and black when the screen was white. I quickly noticed that I could also see them when the laptop was turned off (obviously not blown pixels). After much stress and head scratching, I finally figured out that they were actually dust particles behind the screen’s glass. After Googling it I found many others who are also complaining about the same thing and HP is simply not acknowledging it. Not only that, but it is not covered under warranty because it is considered “foreign contamination”, and not something they did.

They are right… the dust they did not do… creating a technical marvel that costs around $2800 without adding a .99 cent rubber gasket around the infinity screen’s bezel however… that they DID do! So much must have gone into developing this wonderful laptop… but due to a lack of a simple gasket… dust and debris can easily find their way behind your beautiful screen and it could soon look terrible (FOREVER)! Taking the screen apart is extremely expensive and also voids the warranty. If you don’t believe me look at the couple of posts I have listed below. I encourage anyone suffering from this issue to contact HP and demand that they acknowledge and recall it.

Again… an increbile computer… but a huge hidden design flaw! Please use caution if considering this laptop!!!

Droid Sales and the Android Explosion

motorola-droid-android-explosionThe Motorola Droid is doing more than just bashing the iPhone. It is now also smashing the ceiling when it comes to mainstream Android appeal. It’s Official: FCC to Propose ‘Net Neutrality’ Rules

The head of the FCC is finally proposing new legislation that would prevent Internet service providers from tampering with the free flow of information over their networks. The Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2009 was just introduced into Congress. It would basically preserve the Internet as the beautiful thing that is is… open and equally accessible to all… from “mom & pop” businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Preventing ISPs from dividing up larger amounts of data transfer amongst those with the fattest wallets is critical to the success of everyone that relies on the Internet.

This is truly an exciting development!
