Sometimes called inbound links, backlinks are the lifeblood of Search Engine Positioning. In order for a website to be on the top of search engines like Google without the webmaster having to pay big money for advertising, the website has to have a large number of backlinks. Backlinks are links on one website that lead back to another website. The more established, high quality, and high Page Rank the website that contains the link has, the more power it has to help the linked website with its search engine position. If the website that is getting backlinks gets many High Quality and High Page Rank backlinks, the better the chance it has of being in a high position on the Search Engines.

How does a webmaster go about getting high quality backlinks to his or her website? There are many ways this can be done. Some people advocate writing and submitting articles, posting on forums, making comments on blogs. Others talk about submitting their website to various Internet directories. One directory that has an excellent reputation is called DMOZ, or the “Open Directory”. This directory is probably the most respected directory online today. The websites it contains have all been placed there by human editors; there is no “automation” to this directory. The only drawback that’s been discussed about this directory is that it takes so long to have a website included.

Another way that many people build backlinks for their website is to use Social Bookmarking websites. A “Social Bookmark” is a website that usually has a very popular ‘community’ aspect to it. Users sign up and create profiles on the sites that contain photos and information about themselves. They then can save “bookmarks” of favorite websites which can be itemized by ‘tags’, which are one or two word descriptions of what the sites contain, and these bookmarks can be saved to a list that’s private or can be listed publicly, so that everybody can see it.

With the advent of what is known as Web 2.0, gaining backlinks is easier now than in any time in the history of the internet. Most sites now have an “interactive” quality to them nowadays. Readers can often sign in and create profiles. They then are often allowed to post comments on the stories or articles on the website or blog. In many cases, the website or blog owner responds to these comments; thus making this section of the website or blog a conversation.

Backlinking strategies can be easy and fun and the website owner who is working on getting more backlinks for his website can learn new things, meet new people, and have a tremendous amount of fun doing something that was once a chore: building backlinks.

There is considerable difference between writing for the Internet and composing a piece for a magazine or newspaper. What works well for one may be wrong for the other.

Readers of Internet sites, articles, and blogs usually scan first before reading the entire piece. This means their attention has to be grabbed right from the start. Seasoned journalists who are familiar with capturing their reader’s attention in the first paragraph already have the first basic rule of web content writing under their belt. On the Web, maintaining that style will be even more vital as we cannot count on readers scrolling all the way down the page to read the conclusion.

Breaking up web content into short paragraphs will capture the website visitor’s eye more than elongated passages which are more difficult to scan. Also make sure that you use keyword saturation to help with your SEO. Here are some examples of simple Internet writing techniques that will get you noticed:

Break up content into shorter segments:

Capture the essence of what you have to say first and then explain briefly.

Layer information and present only one idea per paragraph.

Use descriptive headings and sub-headings frequently. Keep them meaningful rather than clever.

Create links to more detailed information if segments are getting too long.

Make text more readable:

Using hypertext links, typeface variations, and color, to highlight keywords.

Take advantage of bulleted or numbered lists.

Use appropriate readable fonts as not everyone has perfect vision.

Verify the contrast between text and background colors. Light gray colored words for instance may disappear on a white page.

Unless using fair-sized font sizes and avoid using bold shadows or italics. Not everyone likes them.

Insert illustrations to break up the text and make it look more inviting.

Goal Oriented Writing

Excited about their new venture, some website owners and e-merchants dive in with both feet. Unfortunately, that may not always be a good idea because like with all commerce, you will need some kind of business and organizational plan in place. You need to define the purpose of your website, your goals and objectives, and you need to know your audience.

Understanding the people that will visit your site will not only help you decide what content to write, but it will also guide you in the way that you should present it. This is vital, because if you do not properly navigate your visitors through the site, they will never take action and buy your goods and services. So organize your information in the order your audience will most likely need it and label the choices that you offer clearly.

Be consistent and uniform

If you are busy conducting business it will be tough to constantly refresh your website content. If this is the case you may have to hire multiple writers. It is convenient solution and you get lots of different viewpoints to share. However, do not lose track of the uniformity and clarity of your website. Different writers may also mean different styles, and vocabulary, and these variations in consistency may end up confusing your readers.

Establish writing standards for your projects and create a style guide for your writers. This guide should stress issues in regards to the tone and voice of the content, file, and structure format, as well as text layout. Also, streamline corporate slogans, terminology, and make sure that all writers are consistent in their spelling (e.g. web site/website)

Keep it clear

Keeping your content and buttons clear and understandable prevents confusion. When you introduce a link to a certain product line make sure that it goes there and not somewhere else. The same thing applies to “call to order” features. If you offer your guests a “contact us now” option, make sure that it leads to an address, email, or contact form, and not your “check out” page. To prevent these damaging incidents from happening check your links and pages frequently. If you don’t visitors will quickly doubt your credibility, and professionalism, and with one mouse click they will be gone!

Conclusion

The extra time you invest in creating great web content will help ensure your online audience will complete their tasks properly and in a timely manner. They will enjoy their stay, tell their friends, and best of all, they will keep coming back to your site for more.

How can you help your readers to know whether your site can actually help them? Do you need a web designer to make it happen? Why is content writing on the web different than any other type of writing???

Why Visitors Come
It is a fact that many web users don’t actually come to your site to appreciate the attractiveness of its design. That is not to say that an attractive web design is not important. However, the majority of your site’s visitors are there because the consumer was motivated to look at your site, and to find the specific information that they are looking for.

Glitz and Glamour
You may not need a website filled with all of the “bells and whistles” like Java Script and Flash. These certainly add spice to your website, but can often detract, and sometimes even annoy visitors who are simply looking for the information that they expect to find on your site. Effective bullet points, keywords, phrases accented in bold type, and an easy to navigate page, may have a greater impact on your website than anything else.

Manage Your Own Website
If you know what will help make your site better, you can self-direct the development of the site through a content management system, to provide you with total control over your own website. Some web design experts may prefer to perform the updates for you, but you probably have a stronger interest in the success of your own website, than most hired web developers will.

Writing for the Web
Writing content for web pages is different than writing for any other type of medium. Thoughts must always be compact and content must always be easily scannable. When you write for the web you should always help your reader to quickly find the subject matter that they are most interested in finding as quickly and as easily as possible. Even if your website does not contain the exact information that your visitor actually wants, they may be pleased to know that it didn’t require lengthy reading to make that determination. In turn the visitor may even venture to other pages of your site to see if you have any other information that may be of use to them. A clean and tidy website is always a good thing.

The process of link building is not just one of numerous SEO strategies that are employed on the World Wide Web today; in fact, it is crucial to the success of any website trying to compete in this technological age. Even if you have no other SEO methods in place, your site should at least work on building a reliable base of back links.

Why Are Back Links So Important To The Success Of A Website?

For starters, having relevant, reputable sites linking back to a site is one indication of the success and popularity of that site in the eyes of the general online public. And as long as these incoming links are from a quality source then the website’s page rank will improve, thus improving its location within online search results, as well.

What Defines A Quality Back Link?

There really is no true definition or standard to be used in determining whether or not a site can be considered high quality – you’ll just have to use your best judgment on this, as well as a little bit of trial and error. The more popular and well-established sites will obviously be of the highest quality, though it can sometimes be difficult getting your link posted with them.

You’ll also want to consider the relevance of the websites that are providing you with back links, too. If these sites have content that is similar to yours then they are likely to be more beneficial when compared to some random, off-topic website.

Every website seeks to achieve popularity in order to gain more profits. Site popularity may bring in profits in so many ways. The site may earn from its advertisers or from sales. Since there are perhaps thousands of web sites in each industry in the market, it is not too easy to get your site to the ranks of popular and established web sites. Nevertheless, making your website is never a far fetched dream. One way to make your website popular is through link building. You can do this through directory submission, newsletters, link exchanges, and many other ways.

In this case, we will focus more on building links. Among the three types of link building technique, exchanging links with other related sites is the most effective and the most popular. Link exchange is also the most cost effective, the reason why it is most popular. Although one down side is that, it may affect your site’s credibility in case you have links going out to other mediocre web sites. Link exchange is most effective when it is done carefully. Your link partner web site must be related to your theme and the links coming from that web site must have a reasonable tenure online.

It will be more advantageous if the web site is popular and not banned by search engines. Furthermore, links pointing back to your site must not exceed three clicks away. When these techniques are done carefully, then be assured that your site will benefit a lot from link exchange. One way link building is the most costly of the three. However, you can enroll for a quality links manager to boost your search engine rankings through quality back links. This method is not too expensive but you get so much more in return.

This link building service assures to link to your web page from multiple web sites across a wide range of IP addresses that target the exact keywords you want to rank for. Three way link building is quite a tedious process since there will be three domain names which will participate to get one way link to each other. But if you are practical, there are link building services in the market whose services you can tap. They perform link building automatically so you won’t need to do much in link building. Aside from that, they can also create deep links to a few of your inner pages.

Search engines will find and index your web site if you provide the exact anchor text and description within your pages. Search engine rankings are said to make a good improvement using one way links. However, link building should not be too expensive. The assistance of dependable experts in link building will surely relieve you from the tasking job of link management. The process of building links can save you tons of money from pay per clicks and other marketing methods. Supported by quality guidelines and services in building links will definitely bring in great results to your online business.

Therefore, do not hesitate to invest some money. The expense will be negligible when you start reaping the seeds of your success.

Internet Marketing and SEO (or Search Engine Optimization) is a broad topic. There are many factors to consider when heading out with the goal of improving your website’s visibility and ranking within various search engines, which is a vital step in professional web design.

Choosing the right keywords for a website is an important and informative research task. In the process of improving your website you’ll learn a lot about your industry and your competitors.

Keywords are one the main factors that come into play in the algorithms used by major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Windows Live Search. If a web surfer is looking for home decorating tips and types ‘home decorating’ into a search engine, it will search its database for websites that contain that phrase and those individual words.

If you are an expert in your field, you know what your customers are looking for. Specifically, you know many of the words and phrases your customers would use to describe your products and services. Start with what you know.

Write out a list of phrases and words that describe your business. If you have a home decorating business you may think of words like ‘interior design’ and ‘furnishings’. Sort your list so that the most common phrases are on the top of your list.

You will now want to cross-reference the list of keywords that you have compiled with other lists generated for your industry. This will bring to mind other keywords that you may not have thought of. I recommend using a popular web-based keyword research tool named Wordtracker (http://www.wordtracker.com). Wordtracker helps identify additional keywords and phrases and offers a free trial of their service. It provides only a limited number of related words, but is still a great starting point. Searching for related keywords for ‘home decorating’ with Wordtracker produces a list of keywords like ‘home’, ‘decor’, ‘decorating’, ‘home decor’, ‘furniture’, ‘design’, ‘interior’, ‘interior decorating’, ‘art’, ‘wall’, and ‘fabric’.

Other keyword tools, which produce similar results, are also available. These include, among others, the web-based tools provided by Yahoo (Overture) (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/), and Google (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal).

After compiling and merging the various lists of keywords, you’ll be ready to move on to the next step. Now that you have a clear picture of which keywords web surfers may type into their search engine to find your business, you need to be sure your website contains these important keywords.

A strategy is required when updating your website to include the keywords in your list. Starting at the top of your list, quickly review the keywords. Think about which keywords would naturally be present on your website and which keywords you probably wouldn’t use. Using the first list of keywords, you may now start reviewing the different sections of your website.

Your selected keywords should be placed in various areas of your site with the proper frequency. Your website content should focus on making sense to your visitors, not fed with keywords that will hopefully improve your search positioning. Search engine algorithms can detect the over use of keywords, which can negatively affect your positioning. Let’s now look at different areas of your website.

Every website has a title. This is not a website logo or a bold heading found on the top section of a website. The website title is displayed in the web browser’s title bar. This is the top most area of the window located to the far left of the window’s minimize, maximize, and close buttons. The website title is also the text that is displayed in search engine search results, which is often in a larger font and underlined. The website title is the first thing that a web surfer sees when performing a search. Web surfers quickly scan through search result website titles to evaluate which website will meet their needs. This is your first opportunity to grab their attention.

A website title should contain as many of your keywords as possible, while maintaining easy readability. This will do two things for you. First, the search engine will find your website in its database and display your website in their results. Second, the website title will catch the surfer’s interest as they see their search criteria matching your website title. Over-stuffing the title with keywords makes the title difficult to read and may be seen as abuse by search engines. The website title is updated by changing the text located between the opening and closing title tags, in the header of the HTML code. The title length should be kept to handful of words. The website description allows more space for describing your products and services.

As with the website title, the website description should also contain a variety of keywords. Unlike the website title, the website description is not visible on any part of the website itself. The description is the summary information you see in search engines results, displayed below the website title. The website description gives you a little more space to describe your website and your products and services. Again, be sure that your description is easily readable for your visitors, in order to attract them to click your site title. The website description can be updated by changing the text in the description meta tag, in the header of the HTML code.

Along with the title and description entries in the HTML code, there is also an area to define a set of keywords that you’d like to associate to the page. This is called the keyword meta tag. Keywords are entered as a comma separated list. The industry consensus is that the keyword meta tag is currently of little or no use with today’s major search engines. However, search engines continue to recommend their usage.

This brings us to the meat of our website, so to speak. Our chosen keywords should be used throughout the website content where it makes sense. Again, over-stuffing page content with keywords so that the message is unnatural can be detected by search engines. A good practice is to use the keywords to make the page content more descriptive. For example, a pet store may sell a variety of pet foods. This can be written in a descriptive manner, such as, ‘dog food and cat food’, instead of using ‘dog and cat food’. In this example the keyword ‘food’ is used twice.

Special attention should be given to the usage of heading tags and anchor tags. Keyword usage in page heading is more valuable than keywords used in a paragraph of text. The same can be said with anchor tags (a.k.a. hyperlinks). Using keywords as the clickable text of a hyperlink is very valuable.

Keyword density refers to the percentage of occurrences of your keywords compared to the other text on the web page. Keyword density tools such as Webconfs.com’s Keyword Density Checker (http://webconfs.com/keyword-density-checker.php) provides a visualization of the main theme or message on a chosen page. This tool counts the number of times each word is repeated on the page, which is a good test of how you’ve done at inserting keywords to optimize the content. It is also a good representation of how search engines will see your page. ‘More is better’ is not the most effective keyword density goal. Although the optimum keyword density is much debated, having some balance is definitely in order. A density below 1% makes it difficult for a search engine to understand your main message, where a density over 5% will start to make the content appear unnatural. At this stage in website optimization, the page content can be continually edited while the keyword density is being re-checked. Continue this process until your keywords are among the words with the highest density.

Choosing the correct keywords for your website is a must. Website keyword optimization is not rocket science, but it must be implemented carefully. By using the correct keywords, not only will your site be positioned well in search results, but it will draw visitors to your website.

When the Internet was young, search engine traffic came at a premium price. Websites could buy their way into search engine listings, but there was no guarantee that the purchase would result in a significant amount of traffic.

Today, the rules are much different. In some ways it is much easier to get great traffic from search engines, but in other ways it is even harder. A website has to have a lot of clout before Google or Yahoo will list it in their top returns, but there are many ways to make your site more attractive to the search engines.

If you’re trying to build traffic for a blog, the best thing you can do for increased traffic is to blog and ping. This slightly humorous-sounding term simply means that you let blog directories know each time you make a new blog post.

By cluing in the blog directories whenever you add a new blog post, you’re building traffic in two ways. You might get an initial rush of traffic from the blog directory as readers click through to see your new entry. The real magic happens when the search engines follow the link from the blog directory back to your blog.

The search engine then finds other material to index. As you keep getting more links to your blog, the search engine has more pages to index. Eventually you will find your blog turning up in searches. You will not be in the top couple of pages right away, but you will see your search engine traffic rise.

Blog and ping might sound a little complicated, but it is actually very easy. Most major blog platforms ping the major blog directories automatically. If you want to ping a blog directory that is not listed in their default list, you can usually add it manually.

What if you don’t actually have a blog yet? Well, it is time to hop on the bandwagon. Blogs are useful for conveying your personal thoughts to anyone and everyone, about whatever subjects you choose. You can keep in touch with far-away relatives or just give yourself a creative outlet.

Lately, though… blogs are used quite often as marketing tools for businesses. The business blog can take many forms, from an informal journal kept by a CEO to a formal, frequently-updated record of new products.

Setting up a new blog is not difficult at all, and you have several options to do it. Most often, new bloggers set up a blog with one of the popular blogging platforms. These platforms offer standard templates, or you can create your own to match your company’s color scheme or your personal preferences.

Once your blog is set up and ready to go, don’t forget to make sure that it pings every blog directory possible. Blogging without pinging the blog directories is like spinning your wheels: you are doing something, but you are not making any progress.

If your blogging platform does not support pinging or does not submit to the directories you want, you can use software to accomplish the same thing. It is available under many different titles, but the basic function is to take your most recent blog post and send it to several blog directories. Your links start building up, your search engine traffic increases, and you are one happy blogger.

When it comes to increasing web traffic and optimizing your website for search engines, external links to your site are the key. In general, the more websites that link to your site the better. But first, it’s important to know the basics about links.

A link is simply a means of navigating from one webpage to another. An internal link takes you to another page within the same website, while an external link takes you to a completely new website. The term back-link refers to another website providing a link to yours. Back-linking is great for getting your website exposure.

Links can also take on different forms. Being able to recognize and identify the various types is important. The 4 main types of links are: -URL Link: A website’s URL listed out as a link. -Text Link: (also known as Static Link). This is when a word or a phrase is clickable and takes you to another place. -Image Links: When clicking on an image navigates you to another page. -Dynamic Links: Inbound links from websites where the page is dynamically generated via a database query. Besides allowing visitors to navigate around the web, links are also important to computer programs used by popular search engines called spiders. Spiders crawl around the internet gathering information about various sites and then index those sites. This is why the more links to your website that exist on the web, the higher your ranking will be on search engines like Google and Yahoo.

Different Links, Different Values
Not all links are created equally in the search engines’ eyes. One-way-links which occurs when another website links to you but you don’t link back to them-are more valuable to the search engines than reciprocal links. Search engines also assign value to links based on various factors, such as the link’s relevance to your site, the text around the link, and the authority the website that links to you has.

There are also links that mean nothing at all to search engines. Dynamic links and links that have no follow codes built into them are of no value to spider programs. However, that doesn’t mean they should not be used on your website. While a link that cannot be followed by a search engine spider may not be useful from a search engine optimization perspective, it can still provide increased traffic and visitors to your website.

Ideally, your website should contain links of all types, but should contain more high quality links than anything.

What are High Quality Links?
High quality links are those that produce Page Reputation and PageRank, both of which are ranking methods used by Google. Linking to target keywords is one way to get higher rankings for your website.

Anchor text are links that appear as words that can be clicked, and they are very valuable in the eyes of search engines. The clickable text should always include some of the primary and secondary keywords that you have identified in your keyword research. Because anchor text links are higher quality than URL links, remember when building one-way links to use them as much as possible.

Don’t let your focus on keywords and links compromise the quality of your site’s content. It’s important to make sure you have valuable, relevant content on your website for actual people, and not just filler pages loaded with your target keywords. Google’s spiders have figured out how to spot those who try to cheat the system that way with technology called Latent Semantic Indexing. Basically, this means that their programs are able to analyze all of the words on your page and how they relate to each other, easily spotting and disregarding nonsense pages loaded up with keywords.

Be Selective with Targeting your One-Way Links
When targeting your one-way links, be aware that Google also ranks your site based on the relationship between your site’s content and the content of the sites that link to you. One way links from sites with content similar to yours (i.e. yours is a pet related site and other pet related sites link to you) rank higher than one way links from sites with very different content.

One final word of advice: Think twice about paying another person to link to your site; if caught, your site can be banned from the ranking system all together. Instead, focus on building your links legitimately by taking advantage of as many social media networks you have time for, and also by blogging.

Adobe is teaming up with search industry leaders to dramatically improve search results of dynamic web content and rich Internet applications (RIAs). Adobe is providing optimized Adobe Flash Player technology to Google and Yahoo! to enhance search engine indexing of the Flash file format (SWF) and uncover information that is currently undiscoverable by search engines. This will provide more relevant automatic search rankings of the millions of RIAs and other dynamic content that run in Adobe Flash Player. Moving forward, RIA developers and rich web content producers won’t need to amend existing and future content to make it searchable—they can now be confident that it can be found by users around the globe.

Why is this news important?
Adobe is working with Google and Yahoo! to enable one of the largest fundamental improvements in web search results by making the Flash file format (SWF) a first-class citizen in searchable web content. This will increase the accuracy of web search results by enabling top search engines to understand what’s inside of RIAs and other rich web content created with Adobe Flash technology and add that relevance back to the HTML page.

Improved search of SWF content will provide immediate benefits to companies leveraging Adobe Flash software. Without additional changes to content, developers can continue to provide experiences that are possible only with Adobe Flash technology without the trade-off of a loss in search indexing. It will also positively affect the Search Engine Optimization community, which will develop best practices for building content and RIAs utilizing Adobe Flash technologies, and enhance the ability to find and monetize SWF content.

Why is Adobe doing this?
The openly published SWF specification describes the file format used to deliver rich applications and interactive content via Adobe Flash Player, which is installed on more than 98 percent of Internet-connected computers. Although search engines already index static text and links within SWF files, RIAs and dynamic web content have been generally difficult to fully expose to search engines because of their changing states—a problem also inherent in other RIA technologies.

Until now it has been extremely challenging to search the millions of RIAs and dynamic content on the web, so we are leading the charge in improving search of content that runs in Adobe Flash Player. We are initially working with Google and Yahoo! to significantly improve search of this rich content on the web, and we intend to broaden the availability of this capability to benefit all content publishers, developers, and end users.

Which versions of the SWF file format will benefit from this improved indexing and searching? This solution works with all existing SWF content, across all versions of the SWF file format.

What do content owners and developers need to do to their SWF content to benefit from improved search results? Content owners and developers do not have to do anything to the millions of deployed SWF files to make them more searchable. Existing SWF content is now searchable using Google search, and in the future Yahoo! Search, dramatically improving the relevance of RIAs and rich media experiences that run in Adobe Flash Player. As with HTML content, best practices will emerge over time for creating SWF content that is more optimized for search engine rankings.

What technology has Adobe contributed to this effort?
Adobe has provided Flash Player technology to Google and Yahoo! that allows their search spiders to navigate through a live SWF application as if they were virtual users. The Flash Player technology, optimized for search spiders, runs a SWF file similarly to how the file would run in Adobe Flash Player in the browser, yet it returns all of the text and links that occur at any state of the application back to the search spider, which then appears in search results to the end user.

How are Google and Yahoo! using the Adobe Flash technology?
Google is using the Adobe Flash Player technology now and Yahoo! also expects to deliver improved web search capabilities for SWF applications in a future update to Yahoo! Search. Google uses the Adobe Flash Player technology to run SWF content for their search engines to crawl and provide the logic that chooses how to walk through a SWF. All of the extracted information is indexed for relevance according to Google and Yahoo!’s algorithms. The end result is SWF content adding to the searchable information of the web page that hosts the SWF content, thus giving users more information from the web to search through.

When will the improved SWF searching solutions go live?
Google has already begun to roll out Adobe Flash Player technology incorporated into its search engine. With Adobe’s help, Google can now better read the SWF content on sites, which will help users find more relevant information when conducting searches. As a result, millions of pre-existing RIAs and dynamic web experiences that utilize Adobe Flash technology, including content that loads at runtime, are immediately searchable without the need for companies and developers to alter it. Yahoo! is committed to supporting webmaster needs with plans to support searchable SWF and is working with Adobe to determine the best possible implementation.

How will this announcement benefit the average user/consumers?
Consumers will use industry leading search engines, Google now and Yahoo! Search in the future, exactly as they do today. Indexed SWF files will add more data to what the search engine knows about the page in which it’s embedded, which will open up more relevant content to users, and could cause pages to appear at a higher ranking level in applicable search results. As a result, millions of pre-existing rich media experiences created with Adobe Flash technology will be immediately searchable without the need for companies and developers to alter content.

When will the new results register on Google?
Google is using the optimized Adobe Flash Player technology now, so users will immediately see improved search results. As Google spiders index more SWF content, search results will continue to get better.

How will this announcement benefit SWF content producers?
Organizations can now dramatically improve the rich web experiences they deliver to customers and partners by increasing the use of Adobe Flash technology, which is no longer impeding the ability for users to find those experiences in highly relevant search results. RIA creators and other web content producers can now be confident that their rich media and RIA experiences leveraging Adobe Flash technology are fully searchable by users around the globe who use the dominant search engines. Furthermore, the ability to index information extracted throughout the various states of dynamic SWF applications reduces the need to produce an HTML or XHTML backup for the RIA site as a workaround for prior search limitations.

Does this affect the searchability of video that runs in Adobe Flash Player?
This initial rollout is to improve the search of dynamic text and links in rich content created with Adobe Flash technology. A SWF that has both video and text may be more easily found by improved SWF search.

Will Adobe Flex applications now be more easily found by Google search, including those that access remote data? Yes, any type of SWF content including Adobe Flex applications and SWF created by Adobe Flash authoring will benefit from improved indexing and search results. The improved SWF search also includes the capability to load and access remote data like XML calls and loaded SWFs.

Does Adobe recommend a specific process for deep-linking into a SWF RIA?
Deep-linking, in the case of SWF content and RIAs, is when there is a direct link to a specific state of the application or rich content. A variety of solutions exist today that can be used for deep-linking SWF content and RIAs. It’s important that sites make use of deep links so that links coming into a site will drive relevance to the specific parts of an application.

To generate URLs at runtime that reflect the specific state of SWF content or RIA, developers can use Adobe Flex components that will update the location bar of a browser window with the information that is needed to reconstruct the state of the application.

For complex sites that have a finite number of entry points, you can highlight the specific URLs to a search spider using techniques such as site map XML files. Even for sites that use a single SWF, you can create multiple HTML files that provide different variables to the SWF and start your application at the correct subsection. By creating multiple entry points, you can get the benefits of a site that is indexed as a suite of pages but still only need to manage one copy of your application. For more information on deep-linking best practices, visit www.sitemaps.org/faq.php.

Is Adobe planning on providing this capability to other search vendors too?
Adobe wants to help make all SWF content more easily searchable. As we roll out the solution with Google and Yahoo!, we are also exploring ways to make the technology more broadly available.7

Have you ever wondered how a search engine works? It must be fascinating figuring out how this search tool could direct you to several websites that are relevant to your keywords. Or, have you experienced instances where the link that supposedly contains your keywords is not exactly what you have in mind? You would probably think that there must be something wrong with the search engine that it generated irrelevant results.

How does a search engine work?
Two things figure greatly in making search engines work effectively and efficiently: the electronic search spider and the sitemap.

What is a sitemap?
A sitemap is basically a page or pages that serve/s as a directory by listing all the links to all documents and files found in a website. It is not merely a random listing of links, but organized in such a way that it gives the web user an idea of how all the information that can be found in the site fits into an outline or framework. It is like viewing the table of contents of a book, or viewing the concept map of the site’s content.

What is a spider?
In SEO language, spider is not an animal found in your closet. This electronic search spider is actually a bot which collects data and copies content to be stored in the search engine’s database when keywords are fed into the search dialogue box. The spider reads the content of the site and sends another bot to follow the links and copy the content contained in them.

What purpose does a sitemap serve?
A sitemap like any other map gives directions to a navigator. It primarily targets search engine spiders so that they are properly directed to your site and to the links where keywords entered in the search dialogue appears. As such, it is actually a useful tool in search engine optimization. A well organized site map would guide the spider to find the information it needs when keywords are entered during a search operation.

As an additional beneficial consequence, sitemaps have proven to be useful even to web users. Since a sitemap displays all the links to information found in a website, it helps the user to search for a particular topic in mind. Many users also use the sitemap to navigate between pages in a site.

What are the benefits of having a sitemap for my website?

1. No page would be left unturned
Going back to the purpose of sitemaps, having one would mean faster and easier tracking and crawling of spiders all over your site. As a result, search engines would surely get to the view all the pages of your site and not just the pages containing random keywords.

2. Easier navigation for site visitors
Once a web user has accessed your sitemap, they need not go back to the search engine page to look for what they need. If what they are looking for is in your site, then they would have an easier and faster way of locating it.

3. Potential advertising value
If it so happens that a relevant product or service company reaches your site, then it would be easier for them to see how best they can position themselves in the different pages of your site as a paid page advertisement.

4. Encourage greater traffic to your site
If your company website has a sitemap then potential buyers would have an easier time in accessing your latest products and services. Moreover, they would not miss out on any product that might be off future interest to them since the sitemap would display all information found the site.

How are sitemaps formatted?
There are at least three major types of sitemaps: indexed, full categorical, and restricted categorical. An indexed site map appears as an alphabetical listing or directory.

A full categorical map displays all links classified into categories; while a restricted categorical sitemap displays all links listed in a chosen category at a time. The full and restricted sitemaps are very similar except that the former displays all links in all categories all at once in a page, while the latter focuses only the links under the selected category for easier and less eye-straining viewing.

The most widely used format is the full categorical. Based on the results of a 1999 SURL study on sitemap designs, the full categorical format is most preferred by users since it is easier to search for topics within the site and it allows easier comparison between and among categories.

Some tips in setting up your sitemap

1. Link the sitemap only to your homepage.
This is to ensure that the spider starts searching from your homepage down to all the pages listed in your sitemap. In this way, no page would be left unvisited by the spider.

2. Do not go beyond 30 pages for a sitemap.
Large websites having 50 or more pages should not go beyond 30 since this adds more pages to the site, and might make search engines think that the sitemap is a link farm. Also, this prevents overcrowding of links which could be tiring to view.

3. Check all the links listed in your sitemap.
It can be discouraging when you click on a link only to find out that nothing is displayed. Test your sitemap; click all links in every page to make sure that all links are indeed linked to the right page.

4. Give keyword-rich titles to sitemap links.
Keyword-rich titles give your site more advantage in being searched properly under the right category. But be sure to have this sitemap link linked back to the sitemap (e.g. back to sitemap).

5. Provide a short description for the links in the sitemap.
Doing so would give readers a better idea of what to find in the link and save them time on surfing.

6. Be consistent in designing your sitemap with the other pages of the site. Employ a recurring design and the same HTML template for all pages to establish identity and build character to your website.

We live in a sea of information. And information overload is an increasingly common complaint. Part of the complaint arises because we get hit with different headlines that point to the same content. So we waste time on things that have no added value. Bummer.

When you email your list or put up content on your site, and assuming you want to generate loyalty, it’s necessary that you have content others haven’t seen a dozen times elsewhere.

If this makes sense to you, here are some ideas you can use to EASILY generate fresh content with a minimal amount of time and effort.

First of all, think about a subject in which you are interested. Let’s say it’s horticulture. Now if you’re not aware of it, let me put you in the picture. Most people do web searches from Google’s home page and stop there. Not at all creative. Not at all digging for information from which to develop original content.

So let’s go exploring…

1 – Google has lots of tools besides just web searches. They let you check the news. (http://news.google.com) As of this writing, there are 1,680 news items listed by Google on the word horticulture. Bet you could easily do a summary of some of these articles and create your own content. But let’s not stop there.

2 – Google also has “groups.” (http://groups.google.com/) These are folks who like to discuss *your* subject. So now you can go even farther. Look up horticulture in their groups. Now this information is potentially gold. Why? Because you can see what it is about horticulture that lots of folks are interested in.

Think you might be able to do a little research and come up with a free or even a for-profit report that gives them what they want?

Check out Google’s other tools, too. You can even get research info from universities through Google. Start here: http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/

3 – Next method: Do this search (keeping in the punctuation as written):
+horticulture +free +filetype:pdf

As of this writing, Google shows 196,000 hits for this query. What you get here are free downloads in pdf format about your subject.

Now you can’t simply copy and use it as your own information. You have to create your writing in your own words. But there’s no law that says you can’t summarize what you find in other people’s works. To make the point, you could even call your work something like: “Survey Report: Latest from the Horticulture Front!”

4 – Go to Alexa.com. Do a search on your subject, in this example, horticulture. It provides the exact same results as Google because it’s powered by Google. So why bother, right? Wrong. Because Alexa *does* provide value added information.

When you do the search, you don’t want to click the link that takes you to the listed site. Instead you want to follow the link that says “Site info.” When you do this, you’ll find a section called: “People who visit this page also visit.” This can be very valuable because it potentially shows *what the marketplace is interested in.* This can enable you to tailor your information product to what people want.

Find your Keywords!
Keywords – the words that people will use to find your website. Choosing the right keyword and being consistent with it is vital to your websites success in the search engines.

There are many tools on the market to help you make the right keyword decision. Tools such as Wordtracker will highlight keyword opportunities. We are looking for popular keywords in terms of expected traffic delivery but have a low competition score from other competing sites. This score can be called KEI.

KEI or Keyword Effectiveness Index is a measure of performance. KEI is a ratio of business against competitiveness. The lower the KEI number the harder to get results in the search engine results pages.

As a general rule avoid any keyword with a KEI of under 0.1 as this will be very difficult to target and you could be wasting your efforts.

Go for longer, perhaps 3 word keyword phrases that carry good traffic. The benefits being that they are usually easier to target and provide better, more qualified traffic. Try to avoid broad, non specific terms.

Competitors to that keyword?
Find out how many backlinks your competitor sites have – there are many to choose from, just do a search for backlinks tool. They all give varying results but don’t get distracted by that, just find a tool and use that in all cases, this will ensure that the results you get are at least relative.

No1 competitor HTML
Have a good look at the top two or three websites HTML for that keyword. Have they done anything that you can improve upon? usually be looking closely at three different sites you can arrive at a best method to use for your site. Ensure that title, heading and other tags include your keywords – remember to be consistent as mentioned earlier.

Improve your HTML
Aim to write valid HTML code. The search engine robots prefer clean code and a valid site will usually guarantee that all of your site will get crawled. Always take the time to write original content too – avoid the copy / paste syndrome that plagues many sites. The search engines thrive on original content, make sure that they notice yours.

Search engines are always looking out for duplicate content and will choose not to display your pages for a given search if it thinks your site is not the originator.

Some HTML tips with SEO in mind:

Description tag – take the time to write an appropriate description tag for every page of your site. Google will display this in its results pages and a well written description here should lead to more searchers actually clicking your link and becoming a visitor.

Title tag – This is probably the most important piece of HTML. Always include your keywords here and write an accurate keyword rich title tag for every page of your site.

Keywords tag – It is good practice to put a list of related keywords into this tag although don’t overdo it and do not include any keywords that are not relevant to your web page.

Keep the code clean, use DIVs and not Tables where possible as this has many benefits and it means the ratio of content to code is greater. Try to use your keywords in heading tags throughout the pages.

Take the time to write original copy that uses the chosen keywords throughout. Write the text for a human to read though and not as though you’ve written it for a search engine. Over use (or spamming) of keywords will work against you always.

Try to get the good text content as near to the top of your code as possible. You could use CSS positioning to help with this.

Navigation – Use keyword rich absolute text links with a title where possible and not relative links.

Link to the domain name itself when linking back to the homepage and not /index.html. The search engines will then find the content in one place and not try to index two URL’s – a very common mistake.

To target several keywords, create several pages to do this using the above methods. You can’t expect one page to perform for everything.

Nowadays people have a great desire to build a website which helps them to place their local business into a global arena. They might be little confused at website designing and this is quite natural and logical, because they don’t have any vast experience into website designing and that increasing their panic a lot.

Your first job starts from the groundwork calculations i.e. finding out about your targeted market and its audience. Realize the basic needs of your targeted market and accordingly comprehend the emotions of those audiences.

Most of the people make a common mistake of just searching appropriate keywords before building a website without realizing the market requirements i.e. What are your clients looking for? How to create their interest in your website? Why visitors will prefer your website?

These things should be calculated first because the success story of a high-rise building is hidden at its foundations. The research part to build a website is the backbone of its design and that design becomes the attraction for the visitors.

Don’t forget that the first impression of your visitor will be the last impression for your site and if you want to capture your visitor’s concentration into your website and try to keep them for long term then the designs should be fresh and unique as well as suiting the market which it belongs to.

To do a good research for building your money making website is really critical and time consuming matter and should include some extra research. It also helps to grasp the strong points of your competitors and incorporate and build up on the same giving your site superiority over others.

By visiting web designing forums you get the latest trends of website design, the latest tricks to control the visitors through your website, several ways to distribute the traffic of your website and you will able to receive an awareness regarding small business web design skills.

Now assemble those ideas into a single paper and try to imagine those features which you want to incorporate in your website. Now simply instruct your web designer to do that. There are several web designing companies who will try to sell their own remarkable templates. They might present to you their success list and try to encourage you to use from their templates.

However you should see if the template suits your ideas/requirements. I am sure that they will not have researched much because they don’t have much time to do that, they are just trying to produce the replica in a different manner of most popular web templates of that market area.

Remember that Search Engine Optimization will help you to promote your website at best search engines as well as SEO brings enormous traffic at your website. But to restrict them at your site for long time and to spread them at your important pages depends on entire features and the looks of your website.

The freshness of your site includes unique features, unique animations and unique contents, smartly placing important links at your content and total appearance of your website. The growth of any small business depends on this web designing. Thus you need to be careful while building the backbone of your business.

Flash websites are usually websites for the usage of the popular and regular online users. But flash websites are such websites that have very limited or no textual content at all. These flash websites are usually intended to be catchy and short time affairs unlike the regular blogs and everything which require some time of the users as they have to go through the textual content of the website to know that the website is good enough for them to visit again. They sometimes help to tell stories better than the plain text. So, flash movies can be a great thing to catch eyes instead of the boring static pages. The main problem is that SEO often do not understand flash as it’s not static and takes input from the users. SEO are used for handling static content and so it’s much harder for it to analyze flash than plain HTM codes.

But unlike word press, SEO cannot be used so easily used in case of flash websites as they do not have the writing material on which the SEO mainly focuses on. They rely on pictures and videos to convey some story or message to the visitors of that site. Many famous websites have flash websites as their own which may be recommended sometimes over usual textual websites. But still the doubt remains as to how use the flash websites most efficiently while not hampering the search engine ranking.

So, for better SEO ranking, the first thing to be aware of is the quality and content of flash. It’s better if the quantity of flash occupying the page is less, as it’s good to have as little content instilled in it as far as possible. Also for better SEO, flash should be used carefully as the usage of flash should be kept minimal and relevant. It should no be used somewhere that it may become unattractive or useless to the user like in the advertising place etc. Also some codes Like Java codes can be used. It can be used to create drop down boxes so that it externalizes the flash code. Also, to convey a story it is recommended to use the HTML information to do that, as flash often does not convey a strong or interesting message to the visitors. SEO does not want to lose control over the direction of the users, as they do not want to provide information or data to the users that results to be useless or irrelevant to them. But still a good number of flash websites rank quite highly, though many say otherwise. If you are very keen to build a flash website of your own to increase the catchiness and interactivity with the general audience or online visitors, they should focus on the content and quality of flash and focus on web analytic software’s that can help them with their site.

Did you know that there are tens of thousands of searches done on the Internet every day that are not satisfied by good content, (Information on that topic)? We all know that there are millions of searches done on the Internet every day. Did you know that all searches on the Internet are tracked by a company called “Wordtracker.com?” In addition to this, search engines keep track of how results they provide for each key word phrase. This is because they have the pages on the websites indexed. In addition they keep track of how long people stay at a site. If a person found what they are looking for, they probably won’t keep searching.

Here is an example that might help you see the opportunity better. If I do a search on the internet for “vacation spots” I get 3 million results. If I do a search for “Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots,” I get zero results. What does this tell me? It tells me that Google has 2.9 million web sites with lots of information on vacation spots. That means if I wanted to try and build a site around these key words, I have to compete with millions of other sites. It also tells me that there are no sites that have appropriate information on “Forest Lake Minnesota vacation spots.” That means if I wanted to build a site based on those key words, I would have no competition.

Let’s see if this helps you understand better. If we found out that the key work phrase “Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots” had about six to eight hundred searches every month, and knowing that the search engines have very little to offer for this key word phrase, we know that we will get about six to eight hundred visitors every month to our site. Remember, this is free traffic. You have now found a niche.

This is an opportunity that you can take advantage of for less than $500. Why is this an opportunity? Because you have a web site that provides information to a regular large supply of interested people. This gives you a target market to think creatively about and try and come up with items or services that might fill other needs or wants they have. For example, you could travel to Forest Lake Minnesota, spend some time there enjoying all that it has to offer and then develop a guide for reference to future visitors. “How to make sure you get the most of your trip to Forest Lake Minnesota.” For such a small investment, you have a lot of income potential.

The main point is there are tens of thousands of opportunities like this available on the internet right now, just sitting there. What does that mean to you? That you should do a site based on the key words, “Forest Lake Minnesota Vacation Spots?” Not exactly.

What this means is that if you looked at your own interests and you are willing to do a little research, you could probably find a small group of key words on that topic that people are currently doing searches for, which have little or no websites that provide good quality information for those searches.

I hope it make sense to you why you should choose something that you are interested in. You are going to spend a lot of your time working on the research for this topic; it might as well be something that you find interesting. Can you imagine writing content, doing research, writing articles and all of that on a topic that you could care a less about: especially with so many topics available to you to choose from. Find one that you enjoy.

One of the main points of me writing this artical, is I want to make personal contact with other like-minded business people and collaborate on building bigger better business together, with multiple streams of incomes. I can’t do that if you don’t contact me. But if you do, I will help you any way I can. Let me share with you all of the tools I have learned to utilize.

In the everchanging world of internet marketing Google’s AdSense and AdWords have become iconic. In fact many advertisers do not realize that there are more ways than Google to be successful on the internet. These ways have the added benefit of requiring less capitol investment.

If you are not familiar with this topic, Adwords is a pay-per-click advertising/marketing business; when someone views an ad posted with Adwords the advertiser pays a fee.

Fees for pay-per-click are normally well under one dollar. But these small fees quickly combine to represent a lot of money. This happens more rapidly when the keywords that are used are very popular and general and create higher than average false leads. This method is a gamble and like casino gambling it is very easy to eat up a large advertising budget.

Fortunately, contrary to popular belief AdWords is not the only means of advertising on the internet; as a matter of fact, it is not even the most commonly used technique. There are many ways with which to skin a cat, and the internet marketer intelligent enough to step beyond the boundaries of AdWords will quickly find their profits growing without the continual draining of their budget.

The simplest and least expensive method of advertising without AdWords is to utilize the powers of social networking through blogs and forums. Each of these is a community feature, which allows web surfers to come together to discuss topics that are of great interest to them, and the exposure is unbelievable.

By posting a blog to a topic related to their product and including a link to the website in question an advertiser can exponentially increase the number of viewers their site receives without having to pay a penny.

Advertising on some other businesses website is another great marketing method. The trick comes in choosing the site to advertise on. The most important thing is to analyze with care his desired audience and find the sites they visit the most.

There are three ways you can go about advertising on someone else’s site.

For an advertisement you can create a text or banner ad for the site then pay them to post the ad. Use caution though, this might not be better then the ppc method; except if they will charge a normal fee based on the amount of time your ad is displayed.

Good web content is the basis for the other two methods. In the one way a writer is paid to write articles full of information on a specified topic, that ties in to the advertisers website, to post on the advertisers site to raise his sites credibility with search engines and thereby increase his traffic.

Instead of charging a fee the savvy advertiser will create an article in this manner and approach the creator of said website, offering to allow them to absorb the article into their website in exchange for including their name and site information on the bottom. This is what is known as link building.

Actually, link building works best when the reader in reality finishes the article completely. They also have to enjoy the article enough to want to see if the author has anything else available. But with how limited the attention span of the majority of internet users, the likelihood is low.

Instead, the author can write an article which will have links to key information locations on their own website scattered throughout the article. If the reader comes to a point where they wish to explore an idea more thoroughly or they cannot grasp what is going on they can select the link and it will instantly transport them to the other site.

This is called hosted web content and the majority of sites charge some kind of fee in exchange for displaying your article because a visitor can be taken away from their site.

With strategic use of these ideas you can be profitable and limit your use of the, sometimes dangerous attractions of AdWords. You can walk away with pride and wallet undamaged.

All over the world-wide-web marketers are calling out the virtues of Adwords. They promise youthful lazy enterprisers that for just so much money the will impart their knowledge on how they can generate several hundred dollars each day in the comfortable surroundings of their own home, and they only have to work 3-4 hours too.

Whoa there tiger, did you say lazy?
Sure! The reality is that Adwords is not that complex and by putting a little more effort into the project these young entrepreneurs could learn what these experts are charging money to teach.

In order for an AdWords campaign to succeed it is necessary for the strategy to contain three key components:

1. A success keyword. The keyword choice made for the adwords campaign is the pivotal decision out of all the decisions that are made when setting up an adwords campaign.

The trick to good keyword is to find ones that cover a wide enough area of the topic so that someone who is searching can be aimed in your direction but one that is pointed enough that it won’t attract too many random searches.

It is important to remember that a search engine is going to charge the advertiser for the placement of their ad regardless of the resulting profit; after all, the only profit they are truly concerned with is their own.

The crux of this is that if an ad uses a well used keyword (a marketer may go over to the search engine database and get keywords that are often used in their ads) it will usually get a whole boatload of traffic, but what it won’t do is bring in a lot of sales.

Adwords offers some great features to advertisers that have a problem gathering useful keywords for their ads. By going to www.adwords.google.com advertisers can access these great features.

2. High ranking bids. The unfortunate truth is that internet surfers are a broad representation of most types of people. They want precisely what they want and they want it right now.

This means that they are not going to have the patience to search through hundreds of pages of information; if what they are looking for is not within the first five to ten pages of a search they are probably going to attempt to send their search in a new direction with a new set of keywords.

For the marketer this means that they have to have their ad on the first few pages if they want it to be seen. Of course search engines don’t put the ads up first in; first out. The marketer who will pay the most for a click with get the top spot when ads are displayed.

It is essential that the advertiser find the delicate balance between their sales and the money they are willing to part with; while an ad at the top of the list may receive more attention that does it little good if the advertising budget won’t stretch far enough to allow it its maximum exposure.

Lucky for us that Google has a feature that lets a ceiling be put on the amount of money spent on ad campaigns. If the ceiling is reached, the ad is labeled inactive and not shown in the search results etc.

3. Follow up. Even if you have maximum effort from a crack team of advertisers, there aren’t any guarantees about the results after an ad campaign is up and running. The advertiser still must watch the actions of the ads so that a problem can be avoided or minimized, and changes made to the ad campaign as needed.

There it is! All the key features of a profitable Adwords campaign have been laid out for you without a high price tag. The ball is in your court .are you going to take it and score?

Increases traffic
The basis for all revenue on your web site is that you get customers arriving at your site from search engines or from other sources in great numbers. It seems a simple concept that the more traffic you have, the more likelihood that some of the visitors are going to purchase your product. Search engine optimization helps increase the traffic, because the techniques utilized correctly help to improve your visibility on the search engine results page. Used correctly, SEO techniques make your page move to the top of the list where visitors are more likely to view and use the link.

Improves your page ranking
Search engine optimization techniques will do just as the name suggests – optimize the appearance of your business web page so that search engine spiders will view it more favorably. Because your page ranking is reflected by how high on the list your page appears when the search engine results are returned to those who have placed a search query, the goal to improve the page ranking of your web page is of key importance. Using keywords in a way that optimizes the algorithm factors set by the search engines will increase your ranking in most instances.

Gives you a better web page
Search engine optimization improves the over all design of your web page, since you must think about how to make best use of product descriptions, information and visually appealing factors in the design. It’s easy to type in a few words about your business, add some dancing teddy bears and a lot of bold letters, bright colors and exclamation points, but this can have a negative effect to a person looking for genuine information about a product or service. They may stay only long enough to see that there is no meat to your web page. You would be better to have fewer frills and more genuine information.

Focus your thinking
In the course of reviewing possible keywords describing your product, thinking about images that you use and deciding how best to place those on your web site, you will often find a clarity of description and more focused information on the web site. This is the result of actually spending some time thinking about options in the way things are presented. Web sites that are the result of search engine optimization show evidence of careful planning, good knowledge of the product and careful marketing techniques.

Helps improve conversion rate
When you have effectively used search engine optimization techniques on your web site, you will also have a web site that is good for people. Since people look at web sites, information that is interesting and cogent will help the visitor decide either to return to your site for more information, or to purchase the products that you offer on your site. Even if you get many visitors from search engine queries, the revenue you receive will only occur when your visitors like what they see and purchase the products available.
