Time-Lapsed Video of Design

These days it seems like everyone knows someone that can put a simple website together. Many use templated hosting solutions which allow them to modify prebuilt systems, some use WYSIWYG editors (what you see is what you get) to create in a visual environment, some use text editors to write their coding by hand, and there are an infinite amount of other techniques in between. The one thing that remains certain is that all websites are not created equal. Great websites require thought, time, creativity, technical knowledge, and collaboration.

Most professional web design companies use multiple programs throughout their creation process and start all projects completely from scratch. They use graphics applications to create a look and feel. Flash and 3D applications to create animations and interactive movement. Web development applications to slice their designs into tiny pieces that are then assembled using HTML coding. The addition of 3rd party applications like shopping carts and content management systems to further enhance their site’s functionality. And then test every mechanical aspect of the entire website before placing it on a web server for the public to use. This describes the website design process in its most basic of forms.

Below is a quick time-lapsed video of a designer creating one simple webpage.
I personally found it interesting because after doing this type of work for the past decade, I have many dreams that playout in my head exactly like this video. While many folks are able to throw together a quick website… quite a lot actually goes into creating a successful, professional, website by hand. Click here to see some of our Design Examples.
